Matt Smith has admitted that he is unsure about the prospect of a romance on Doctor Who.
Rumours have previously suggested that Smith's Doctor will have a romantic relationship with his new companion Amy Pond, played by Karen Gillan.

However, Smith told the Chicago Sun Times that he believes having a romance on the show would be "tired".
"There is always room for romance in Doctor Who but to be honest, the idea of the companion and the Doctor getting together is a bit of a tired story by now," he explained.
"There is only so far it can go. What happens? So, they get together, travel around the universe, end of story? There has to be more to it than that."
He added: "It has to be about adventure, magic and exploration. Those are the things we're interested in this season, really."

Doctor Who continues on Saturday at 6.30pm on BBC One.

I think that Amelia as a child would have been a very good companion.

I really enjoyed that too. I too preferred Amelia. I think it's going to be a good series.

I still wish that Amelia Pond had stayed as Amelia instead of changing to Amy.


Interesting to read that the actresses that took those parts are related.

well, he wasn't as bad as I feared lol ( died in the wool DT fan ) I've been around for all the doctors, and he's not the worst., but I don't like the choice of clothes :(

The next series of Doctor Who will premiere on April 3 on BBC One, it has been confirmed.

New showrunner Steven Moffat made the announcement this morning on BBC Breakfast.

The episode is entitled 'The Eleventh Hour' and will feature Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor and Karen Gillan as his new companion Amy Pond.

The upcoming series is the 31st since Doctor Who first aired in November 1963 and the fifth since the programme's 2005 relaunch headed by Russell T. Davies.

Doctor Who is to face his most challenging villains yet, according to a show insider.

The Time Lord will be forced to battle the Tritovore, described as a half-man half-fly creature, in the forthcoming Easter special, reports The Mirror.
"They are disgusting and will last long in the memory," said a source, who added that Who bosses hope that the Tritovore would become as iconic as the Daleks and the Cybermen. Everyone remembers the Daleks and the Cyberman, but not a lot else if they're honest. The Tritovore will change that. Scriptwriters are confident they'll make a huge impact."
