My nan would always say,ner cast a clout till may is out. This was supposed to mean dont go out without a warm coat or jumper till may is out as the weather can soon change! also if someone had paid you a visit and were on the way home she would say keep out the oss roads.in her younger days horses were used to pull carts etc so you had to keep an eye out, this saying means keep safe on the road home, lol.we live in the west midlands.

If something surprised her, mum would say "Well!,
I'll go to Halifax" (Why Halifax?) and if something happened unexpectedly e.g. a door swinging open for no apparent reason, she would say "It's the man from
Liverpool". All the more strange as she was Welsh.

In my teenage yrs if i moaned that something wasn't fair the response was always, "what, a black man's a**e?"

My Nan's favourite saying seemed to be "f**k a duck"

If ever I said.. what? my Grandfather said 'cold taters arent hot'

When Mum thought someone was loud and rude she'd say 'empty vessels make the most noise'

My Grandmother always said 'he's about as much use as a chocolate tea pot' and when she had a large bill she could pay
'well you can't pluck feathers off a frog'
