Hello,
I am a direct descendant of the Hurst family whose roots can be traced to around 1500 in the Oxford area of England.
There is at least one branch of Hursts in Australia/New Zealand.
If you are a Hurst family member you may like to know that there is a Hurst Family Research project which uses DNA testing to establish links between our various branches and to confirm descendany.
This is the home web page https://www.familytreedna.com/default.aspx
And an excerpt from the ‘What it’s about’.
You can order a test and join a project according to the following categories:
Males can join:
A Surname Project that research individuals that have the same surname or a variant. Joining a Surname Project could be very helpful to verify relationships with individuals that share a similar surname.
One Y-DNA Geographical Project to verify a possible point of origin for the paternal line.
Females and Males can join:
One mtDNA Lineage Project that research individuals that have or suspect having the same maternal line.
One mtDNA Geographical Project to verify a possible point of origin for the maternal line.
So far the project has identified a number of different branches in England and the US and It would be great to see the Antipodean Hursts also involved. If you are interested then please contact Group Administrator: Joy Marschman [email protected] .
