The last few months have been the worst of my life watching what was happening to my once strong and proud father. I'm trying very hard to be relieved for him but all I can think of is what I've lost.

It's typical of him that he had written down what arrangements he wanted for his funeral. Before he went into the Grange in 2006 he gave my OH an envelope with a list of suggested music, hymns and readings.

This is one I hope to find the courage to read -

When we die, and people sometimes weep and grieve, let it be because we just touched their lives with some simplicity, humour, kindness and, perhaps, a little beauty. Let it not be said that life was good to them, rather that they were good to life.

Last night I hoped to be able to tell him that I think I've solved the mystery of his "suddenly disappeared" Uncle Jim, whose name was *not to be mentioned* in his mother's presence but it was not to be. I like to think he knows, now.

I'm sure my Mum was waiting for him with open arms.

Gwynnie, so sorry to hear the sad news, and I can feel for you. I went through this, it was 22 years ago,when I lost my beloved Dad, seeing him getting weaker in ten days, time does heal, but I always think of him, with a tear in my eye, when I hear of news like yours.
