My grandad died 12 years ago and I have a little book with this poem in and I have put his picture in the front. I miss him a lot x x x

Death is nothing at all

I have only slipped away into the next room

I am I and you are you

Whatever we were to each other

That we are still

Call me by my old familiar name

Speak to me in the easy way you always used

Put no difference into your tone

Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow

Laugh as we always laughed

At the little jokes we always enjoyed together

Play, smile, think of me, pray for me

Let my name be ever the household word that it always was

Let it be spoken without effort

Without the ghost of a shadow in it

Life means all that it ever meant

It is the same as it ever was

There is absolute unbroken continuity

What is death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind

Because I am out of sight?

I am waiting for you for an interval

Somewhere very near

Just around the corner

All is well.

Nothing is past; nothing is lost

One brief moment and all will be as it was before

How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

That poem reminded me of that letter that a soldier in the Confederate war in America wrote to his wife just before he died. It is called Sergeant somebody's letter and used to be on the Internet. This is a useful comment isn't it, I can't remember exactly what I'm talking about. I first heard it in that documentary series that was made about the Civil war some years ago. The letter was read by an actor with a lovely speaking voice and there was violin music in the background. Very sad.

Maybe others would like to add poems and verses. We did have this thread before but it disappeared. There have been some lovely words written recently on the depression and other threads, feel free to add.

Hope you can sleep Marion, do you have to get up for work or anything or can you sleep in?

I know what you mean about no support when your baby son died. My daughter Zoe was born in 1974, she was ten weeks prem and weighed just 1 lb 10 oz, she lived for three days. They didn't take photos or do little hand prints and such then, as they do now. No support, nothing, all I have is her little grave with the tiny headstone on. Never got to hold my daughter, so didn't even know her smell.
Take care, we will see them again one day.

I hope so Marion, this used to be on here often but then the thread got lost so I thought I would put it up again.
I am sure our loved ones are all around us.

I have been smelling cigarette smoke this evening while sitting on here. No one smokes in this house ever! My dad was a smoker and died of lung cancer.

Remember Me by Lynn New.

No pain beyond, no tears, no fear.
No thoughts of death for I'm still near.
No hugs I know, nor sweet caress,
But I'm still close to love and bless.
No quiet word, nor gentle touch,
But don't despair ~ I love you much.
No gesture kind, to show I care;
The veil's drawn, but I'm still there.
Grieve not too long ~ but look around,
In earthly things I shall be found.
A falling leaf, a growing tree,
In every breeze you will feel me.
I walk in life ~ death holds no pain.
Be Reassured, we'll meet again.
