My husband has had two different cancers plus various other complications and "interesting" conditions.

He's now asked to come into the hospital once a year as a sample patient for post graduate doctors to have as someone to examine during their exams. He's not allowed to say a word though he often wishes he could give some of them a clue!

Last year he'd just had bowel surgery so was too "interesting" but he did it again a few weeks ago.

The first time four years ago he (and the consultant doing the testing) were amused because all the candidates confidently found my husband's spleen...........a neat trick since he had it removed about 8 years before and the long scar should have given a clue!!

Keep smiling Jean.......people like you are useful as well as interesting. It really helps to stay as positive as possible.

I've been told three times that my husband wasn't going to survive the night and he's still here.........he's now on annual checkups.

Wishing you all the very best.

Eileen,

That is precisely why I talk about it continuously and have no qualms in letting everyone know what is going on. I realise I embarrass a lot of people by this attitude by that is the only way I can handle it.

Even my brother has only telephoned me once because he said he didn't know what to say.

For goodness sake I am still me... I haven't changed.

My daughter, who also has cancer, has told me that a lot of her friends have lost touch with her because they can't handle her condition.

Thanks goodness all my friends have rallied round and realised that the more I talk about it the better I can handle it and keep in constant touch with me.

Thank you all so much for your positive thoughts and for making me giggle:)))

Eileen I am so pleased you added your experience it has lifted me no end.

My bowel consultant is an absolutely gorgeous Italian gentle man who is single.
If only I was 30 years younger(: and no I am not introducing you to him lol. He told me he had some bad news for me but it was not the end of the world and also that when I had taken the news in it could even be in my favour.

He went on to explain the ins and outs of carcinoid cancer and it is better to have that in the liver rather than secondary breast or bowel cancer.

I have even more faith in my consultants now
as the breast surgeon was adamant that the liver was not secondary breast and the bowel
surgeon was the same about secondary bowel. Both were proved to be right :))) How could they know there was a third beggar lurking about.

Just got to get the colonscopy over and the biopsy done on the second bowel tumour and perhaps then treatment can start...although I am not holding my breath as I have learnt over the last 3/4 months to take things one day at a time and just carry on normally as things can change with every biopsy, scan, etc.

There are 200 different cancers.

Only 197 to go lololol.
