I used to watch Brookside in the 80s and then went on to Eastenders but now don't watch any regularly although if 'stenders comes on when I'm sitting down I'll see what's going on and what it's like these days. I'm much more likely to miss listening to the Archers.

These days one of my favouriteTV programmes is Coast - a lot to do with enjoying Neil Oliver's voice. 'Course his face will do to bring a little joy too. I don't go for your usual chiselled handsome types.

Do you have anyone particular that gladdens your viewing?

Couldn't believe it, when we moved here we couldn't get signed up to a dentist at all - even private dentists were saying they had waiting lists! But after a few months a new local NHS one opened up and contacted us to offer us places. We see the same man every time and being one of the extra nervy sorts he's very understanding with me. Seem to get quickly sorted out and he doesn't look for unnecessary business.

Another thread made me think. Who remembers the old kids programmes like Magpie or Twizzle? Which ones can you remember?

Not actually passed on to me but my Dr always said salt water for everything that didn't need antibiotics. You name it his advice was salt water,it' a big joke between us,but it does work !

Do you have private dental care or private medical care..?

Easter Bunny Report 16 Mar 2010 11:11

nothing different.I went to church as usual, the only thing I did that was special was I took some lovely iced heart shape cookies for all the ladies in church.
The family came for lunch. My daughter bought lots of scented candles because she knows I love them and my son bought me a cuddly toy dog.
I left some extra cookies for the sunday school children to take home.
Have got Cara,my grand daughter here today as she has tonsillitis She is eating ice cream lol.
Do you have any home remedies, that were passed on to you ? (for anything, not necessarily sore throats lol)

Yes.
My job was moved 20 miles away, instead I opted for another department ( Civil Service) 5 miles away ( my original workplace was a mile and a half away ).
I hated it and finished in 2 yrs way before my retirement age !
Reduction in pension , but I'd rather be happy with less money:))

If female did you do anything special for Mother's day ?
If male did you join in:) ?

I go to my tiny local village church about twice a month. The service times are different depending which week it is as we are a combined parish with about 3 churches sharing the vicar and a couple of ministers. Some of the services are at 9.30 and I've done with being up and out at that time on a Sunday morning. The 10.15 service is a better bet for me and doesn't eat into the whole day like the occasional later 11.30 service. We haven't lived here all that long but it has been really welcoming. I never got sent to Sunday school by Mum and Dad, but when I was a bit older we went to a special occasion in our local church at the time and there was something on afterwards for the young teenagers which they let me stay to. After that I went down on my own from time to time but it was a long way from home to the nearest church so especially in the winter I had to rely on Dad to take me. He was willing enough but sometimes just couldn't. Between my early 20s and up to much more recent years I had a big split with church but am glad to have a much more comfortable relationship with it again.

Have you ever had a major change of heart over anything important?

Easter Bunny

Easter Bunny Report 4 Mar 2010 11:49

our area is apparently the last to be changed over. Our tvs are compatible though. We did hear a rumour that it will affect the radio settings for church microphones and it could cost us to get that sorted.I sincerely hope not.

Do you ever go to church apart from special occasions and did your parents send you to Sunday school as a child?

DizzieLizzie Report 3 Mar 2010 18:57

We go digital later this month and have just bought a new super whizz bang TV special for the occasion. We did have one that was compatible but we've had it quite a while now. Brought it from London with us but it's decided to show its age and we now have a huge lounge so we very nearly needed binoculars to watch it. We decided to wait to get a new one until near the time so hopefully it lasts a good time without needing to be changed.

Has anyone had any recent experience of the changeover - how has it been - any hiccups?

*$parkling $andie* Report 3 Mar 2010 10:04

Yes, but I am going to have to change it as the battery is not holding it's charge, hubby bought a new battery still doing the same so it must be the phone. It's a good few yrs old, I love it it's tiny flip phone, no camera or gadgets just the basic.
I always take it with me but only really use it to phone home or in emergencies as it's Pay as you go. My son and dau have contract phones with unlimited calls so if I need to phone another mobile I use my sons:)

Dau has a tel in her bedroom which is analogue so she will need a didgy box soon as our area is going digital this month.

Is your area gone digital yet ?

My OH is the gardener in our family but I do like potting tubs and planters outside.
we have several plants in our house, One of the oldest plants is behind the TV table where we have a 32 year old Swiss cheese Plant , it originally started off in my mums house she had it for a year but then I got married and I took it with me to my own house in 1979 , it then came with us to our new house in 1985 and then in 1989 we moved up to Scotland and the cheese plant came with us too all the way up the motorway in the removable van and it is still surviving well to this day.
I also have some mature peace lillies and quite a few spider & ivy plants.

I have a 6 month's granddaughter who is growing fast and brings us so much pleasure when she comes to visit , have you any grandchildren?

Easter Bunny

Easter Bunny Report 2 Mar 2010 18:07

I don't have a garden, just a yard with baskets and pots.My other half has no interest whatsoever lol. My daughter has a small garden which I am hoping to make pretty for her with lots of sweet smelling flowers.I used to have a large garden when the family were little and it was full of roses, irises, stock, carnations, lavender, honeysuckle, wallflowers etc
.A riot of colour and perfume.
do you have any houseplants?

DizzieLizzie

DizzieLizzie Report 2 Mar 2010 17:17

I have snowdrops and aconites but they're more late winter and a first few primroses beginning to open. I was just saying yesterday it was St David's day and not a daffodil in bloom. They are poking through the ground but much slower than previous years with all the cold and snow we've had this year.

My OH and I have different roles in the garden and with my parents Mum did the garden and Dad appreciated it. Do you work together in the garden or is one of you in charge?

Anne Report 28 Feb 2010 21:36

I remember 2 of my grandmothers and 1 grandfather. My paternal grandmother lived to be 94 and was still alive when all three of my sons were born, She was my favourite grandparent and would tell me about her life when she was young, which has been a great help with the family tree. She would also take me to the theatre quite often, when I was in my teens her favourite entertainment was the variety shows in the White Rock Pavilion in Hastings and the end of the pier plays by the local rep, company

Do you still live in the same county as your closest relatives ?
