SS,

just on knees but still longer than some of her mates, whoes skirts look like belts rather than skirts. Trouble is it's the local grammar and you have to buy the skirt from the outfitters who charge arm and leg... so i was only ever getting one!!

In that case don't forget Asda do a black blazer for £10 and M&S do one for £18. Twins school suggest we go to the school outfitters but no one bothers. I got twins M&S blazers and they seem to be lasting well, can wash them and dry them v easy. Was dubious about the cheapness of adsa blazers but speaking to parent whoes boys have them they seem to be fine. This does depend on whether you can buy the badge seperatly. We can. And saved small fortune.

no worries Julie, have just applied for twins cards, as they travel home on the bus. Didn't get one when they started as back then it was only compulsary for 14 & 15 yr olds, also it cost a fiver then. was going to wait until they started getting questioned about their age. But this new rule has meant we've had to get them, but at least now they're free!!

We always walked to school, even on the days when the weather was awful. Mum learnt to drive when I was 15 and so she would very occasionally pick me up from school. But it was a rarity.

My nephew and niece go to a school that's a five minute walk down their street, my sis in law drives them everyday, to the point that she leaves half an hour early in the afternoon to make sure she gets a parking spot! Thus wasting at least 20 minutes sitting in her car...it's ok though, as she uses the time constructively by playing on her DS.

Julie, glad to hear the good news and even though he may not be thrilled now by the end of his first term he'll be loving it so much...the other school will already be beneath him ;-) I'm sure he'll do very well and if the school put on a good show for perspective pupils it says a lot... I doubt that many bother.

Julie

don't forget to get him a zip card as well, they are the new oyster card for under 16's. From 1st June all 11 - 16 must produce one to get on bus free. It will be compulsary after june. All you need is the form from post office plus photo and a form of ID. They used to cost a fiver but are now free.
I know you said he'll go by bike, but might be best to get one in case he fancies going on the bus when it's cold and wet!!
