I believe that some people love kittens and puppies but don't have a clue about cats and dogs........hence the reason so many end up in rescue centres.....what they paid for them suddenly dosn't matter
sadly..........."free to good home for no fault of their own " :(

Ok as a breeder of pedegree dogs thats shows or did lol

can i just say this i have never ever made a profit from any litter i have had

and because of my blood lines my pups are expencive to buy

but look at the facts can we

first puppy farms need closing down now but if people continue to buy from them rather than a kc reg breeder it will never happen the rspca are totaly usless at it tho they could close em if they wanted

next

the reason i have never made a penny from a litter is simple

take out the stud fee ok in my breed its a min of a grand lol

now take the min wage per hour and apply to the care i give to my litter

i spend 24/7 with the pups for three weeks thats every feed to make sure nothing goes wrong and hand feeding the pups that need a help

once weaned i go to my bed

so yes i am a breeder of dogs and proud of it, i breed happy healthy puppys that are pre sold all have kc endorsments on the peds

all homes are visited by me

sorry but to class all breedes the same is wrong and errrrrrrrrr is all dog and cat breeding was stopped

in 20yrs there would be no dogs or cats would there

so nuter every bitch and the world would be a lonly place

Sorry it didn't work for her Lilymoon. I have two friends in the same situation at the moment and there was a time in my life when it was very possible I'd have to go down that route. Fortunately I was one of the lucky ones. And I thank my lucky stars for my good fortune everyday......One of my two friends now has 4 dogs so I know where your sister is coming from xx

surely if there was a one price situation bad breeders would make the bitches breed even more, to make up there losses, or they buy more dogs to breed if there made cheap, when i was looking for poppy i too was grilled and spoke at lengh which i agreed with others wernt bothered especially cheaper ones, people with illnesses need to chose a breed to suit them and the dog, breeding will never be stopped it would just go under ground.

After buying our first GSD , the breeder followed it up with calls to see how we were all getting on . We also had a lot of contact with S'Jenna's "mum and dad" so could see their gentle nature.
We now go back to see the breeder several times a year and all three of our dogs love him to bits.

**edited to say I've just remember poor Sal my dad's dog (though I was living at home at the time so she was a family dog really) we fought her epilepsy for 4 years before it became untreatable..... she was a Lab cross lurcher (rescued) xx

I bought both my dogs from a local breeder they are auntie and neice , shih tzus, they are wonderful dogs , wanted a small dog that was ok with staying at home as we both work

we visited a local animal shelter to look at dogs before i got my 2 , they had loads but everyone we asked about was either not to be left during the day or not suitable with cats or children.

I don't see the logic in that. If you are paying £1000 for a dog...... you'll have thought it through and not bought on impulse. it's not a sum of money that's throw away to the majority of the population.

ALSO not every breeder is money mad. The vast majority love and care for their dogs and breed sympathetically.

IVF costs money and people make a profit out of that........... it's a fact of life xx

lilymoon

lilymoon Report 28 Feb 2008 20:19

yes the price of the dog is harming them because if breeders were stopped from charging a high price the majority of breeder would stop meaning less dogs being born

Jill in France Report 28 Feb 2008 20:17

I was told by a very good breeder, that a dog sold too cheap was like buying a cheap car. The more you pay the better you will look after it and if you get get something for nothing, then its easier to discard.

There is a great difference between responsible breeders and puppy farms and I think we are all agreed that nobody should go to the latter.

The problem with rescue dogs is usually being older you don't know their temperment. We had one in the 60s, she was a terror, she could climb over a 6 foot fence, we couldn't keep her in, she jumped at our 3 year old daughter and was hysterical if left for a minute on her own. We couldn't keep her with a child she had to go back. We then had a toy/miniature poodle from a breeder and had no problems with her. If they are a pedigree breed or a cross breed you at least can have a good guess at what size they will be, not everyone wants or can control a large dog.

With cats it is slightly different and, having had a rescue cat i would not hesitate to have another one.

I don't think it's the price of the dog or the fact that people are making the money out of breeding them that's causing any probs ... Puppy farms not included in that of course...... so I'm not mithered one way or another. No one is putting a gun to peoples heads to make them pay and if you feel a certain breed is too much for the budget...... you look at another.......eventually the greedy ones will have to adjust their thinking if people refuse to pay xx

**edit to say... the price of the dogs aren't harming the dogs....... just the pockets of those that wish to buy them!!! xx

lilymoon

lilymoon Report 28 Feb 2008 20:00

but if we could get the goverment to bring a law out that nobody could charge more than 120 pounds people would not breed dogs for a living or pocket money not only are people making a profit out of bitches they are even making money studing there dogs at 200 a time lilymoon

♥~Muffy! ~♥

♥~Muffy! ~♥ Report 28 Feb 2008 19:43

Thing is if people didn't pay the money they wouldn't be able to charge the prices !! lol. No one is making them pay £1000 ..... they are doing it of their own free will. I personally wouldn't pay that much but that's just me xx

all dogs and cats should be bred

in a caring loving home

not in a puppy farm

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 28 Feb 2008 19:34

I agree also that puppy farms are awful and should be banned.

I agree Lilymoon that puppy farms should be outlawed totally...... they ARE cruel and barbaric. xx
