I think you all know where i stand on this one.....

But, just incase there is ANY doubt....

I disagree with breeding domestic animals for proffit/fun/ whatever tickles your fancy....
All owners of dogs should have to hold a licence for that animal, wether it is a ped breed or not. All cats should be neutered or spayed.
If - in the next million years it looks like a breed of dog/cat is to become extinct i agree that a proffesional organisation should be in charge of a breeding programme - not the general public!!!!

I personally think it is a disgrace that 'loving owners' would USE their pet to make them proffit - and the recent increase in peds in animal shelters can only support the theory that animals are being over bread by money hungary humans....
Puppy farms are an abomination - i hope one day the humans feel as much pain and suffering...
Also a rescued animal may have more baggage - it usually consist of more love and affection - it's about choosing the right dog/cat for your circumstances..There are hundereds of thousands of puppies and kittens in rescues (some peds too) that have no more baggage than any other animal...

Roxanne Report 29 Feb 2008 11:17

Joy,You said you bred them to Improve the breed,Personally I find that very odd!

nature works far better at that,In My opinion!

Steve,I really don't think that stopping the breeding of these domestic animals will in any way mean they will become extinct! you only have to look at animal shelters and the amount of animals that are thrown out on the streets!
it would take hundreds of years for that to happen.

Abigail,
Mongrels have been proven to make the best possible companions.
If people went to the R.S.P.C.A or some other well established sanctuary, they would be advised on the right Companion for that particular family.

No!!!Breeding needs to be stopped,If you cant see the reasons, the Im afraid you never will!

Ignorance is bliss,isnt it:-))

I'm thinking about it Lilymoon.
The woman is very nice to talk to but I suspect behind closed doors she says"no one is going to tell me what to do".
Other folk in the area are beginning to complain about the amount of cats and I tell them all its "that house".

when i bred my Devon' Rexs

all but one of the kittens i bred

were neutered it was our agreement

and that was over about 14 years

i never bred them for the money

it was to improve the breed

and for the pleasure it gave me

and the new owners

i stayed in touch

with every owner of the kittens

until they died all of old age

and was happy

with the homes each went to

Abigail Report 28 Feb 2008 22:39

We have two (ex) Tom cats.

They were "improved" as soon as they were old enough!

But the older one had one of his "impediments" inside his body so they had to go looking for it.

I think he might have got a third one somewhere as he still tries to roger his little brother!

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 28 Feb 2008 22:35

I had my kitten spayed as soon as she was old enough to........I have four cats all have been "done".
I have a new neighbour ( since April 07)
They have had three litters of kittens born since then......more mateing been going on the past couple of weeks.......I think they have 12 cats ( and three dogs ) !!
I have mentioned getting them done and that Cat Protection or RSPCA will help...........
It's driving me round the bend and my cats are scared to leave my garden now.

Oh, I can't do fish!

I put my foot in it when I went to see a friend.

Her children had just got a new HUGE goldfish and as I stared into the bowl, with my mouth watering, I accidentally said,

"Gosh, it's almost big enough to eat!"

My son's friend (aged 9) was NOT impressed.

The same thing happens to me with rabbits.

Must be how i was dragged up!

lol.... just my opinion, of course.... as you so rightly said... we are all entitled to one... no argument intended... this lady is not for turning on this point... this IS my opinion.. just as you have yours, which you are equally entitled to! I certainly did not intend for there to be an argument! lol!

Lilymoon... it is not that it was actually called a criminal act... but there is a feeling of censure implicated... that is how I interpreted it, I am afraid.
Just as my words have been interpreted as argumentative... so be it!

*shrugs shoulders* not a problem!

Daff

Abigail

Abigail Report 28 Feb 2008 22:13

I am with Daff and Kitty and others here.

It isn't pedigree breeding or mongrel breeding (although this may happen more often as pedigrees are often guarded from having "nights on the tiles"!!!)

It is irresponsible breeding that is the problem.

My aunt rescues pedigree standard poodles - two had a history of owners dying, one was unable to cope after a breakdown, but they had all been lovingly and responsibly bought.

On the other hand a friend has a mongrel who was from a litter whose mother was kicked out when it became obvious she was to have puppies.

it is a passionate subject, but whatever motivates a person to take on an animal, the animal MUST be suitable for the home that they are able to give to it, ie, working dogs in working homes and pets in a home suited to their temperament and exercise needs.

Or it will end in tears again.

I don't think she did.

She stated her opinon strongly same as you did Roxanne. However..........we all read stuff different I guess....... so I'll disappear here cos I've enjoyed the thread and don't wish to argue.
