I have finished copying and pasteing

tomorrow i am going to copy and paste the memories thread and Thursday I am meeting a young man trying to make his name as a writer, he is a volunteer in the Air Museum Archives, with a view to him producing it as a booklet

I will let you know how it goes

If It doesn't work out, the other option is to find a good (& fast) typist to type it all out on A4 sheets and my son has a new booklet making heat machine as well as the spiral binder machine.

If the second option I will supply anyone with them at cost plus a donation to charity

the first option I will arrange a percentage of the price to go to charity if it it published

I hope everyone is agreeable to that

I want nothing at all from it

and everything will be transparent

Nudge for Lynda

A nudge for a great thread. Born in 1974 live for the 1940's. Why??? I wasn't around but wish i was. I collect war recipes. If anyone has any please post.

Chell, my favourite meal cooked by my Grannie Mac was Bacon & Onion Suet Roll

It was strips of Bacon and onions just rolled up like a Swiss Roll and steamed

She used to live in the same Road and whenever she was cooking it she would cross the grass outside my house and just knock on the window

That was my message to go to her house and make a pig of myself

She did the same when it was Dumpling Stew

The minister of Food gave out this recipe,which was first tried at the Savoy.It consisted of vegetables topped with a potato pastry,and sprinkled with cheese.Very nourishing

I remember my Gran used to save coal the coal was put into a coal shed and she would wrap lumps of coal in newspaper and tie it with string and put it round the shelves so the coal man didn't see it lol! Then of course every bit of string or brown paper was collected. Mum only ever made marzipan potatoes as cakes and as for the orange juice we got as kids -- we loved it

Thanks Brenda for another great idea. Mac has pm me with lots from his childhood. All todays recipes entail you to go to the shop to buy the ingredients. The war recipes were mainly basic garden grown veg with a few luxuries thrown in. I will look in my numerous handwritten recipe books for Woolton pie if not i will google it.

I saw dried egg for sale in Tesco's on Monday.
If you wern't feeding a pig or hens all potato peelings used to be dried and burnt on the fire. Tins used to go on as well. All eked out the coal ration. Jean

My mother never had potato peelings

She just scrubbed the potatoes and cooked them, no waste

cool this has been revived I love bacon and onion roll my mum used to make it cool maz

Saw in local paper that a school is having a war week, including a war lunch. The paper said it has been brilliant and everyone joined in and the food was good but different to what they serve nowadays.
