Hi Maryanna :):)

There seems to be a fair bit of this happening at the moment, not just here but other visited sites also.
A bad spate of advertizers popping up all over the web, often conning good sites into using adverts but then flooding people with trojans, spyware etc.

Some of these get into quite a few areas of the computer which make them difficult sometimes to detect straight away, hence the log we are considering.

The new versions of spyware, malware, etc are created by some pretty clever people, wasted people in my eyes they could probably be earning a mint elsewhere.

The best form of protection offered is keeping up to date. Making sure critical updates are done on a regular basis, making sure, people are aware of the differences between, malware, spyware, trojans viruses, worms etc pop up blockers.

Its not unusual for me to speak to people who say Ah but I have virus protection, Its not enough to have the one thing on a computer and preventing all of the newer things is a must also.

The recent thing with Flash Player attacks had even me asking what I was missing. I hadnt updated one of mine either :):)

Hi Steve yes we now have Norton and AVG. AVG seems to be a lot more "on the ball" than Norton, always giving updates. Don't know if thats a good thing ar not, Half scares you to death sometimes ! AVG were reccomended to us by PC World. have got it on a months free trial.

Hi Puss :)

Sorry to hear that, did the download happen so that it downloaded to the computer ?

Maryanna

Maryanna Report 14 Feb 2008 15:12

I meant earlier that the virus was trying to sell antispyware not AVG !!

hi colin i got onto the site but it wouldnt let me download it

Peipal

Peipal Report 14 Feb 2008 15:17

I understand Maryanna lol

actualy you only need one AV program on your computer as long as its updated regulaly

having two running may cause conflicts and slow the computer down

also you can down load a free build of AVG from their web site thats as good as the paid one

Maryanna

Hi Puss :)

Two reasons I can think of off the top of my head :)

One, on the top tool bar does anthing appear there when you try to download anything, attempt the download again please and see if the top tool bar shows a click here:)

Are you running a strong firewall ?

Maryanna

Maryanna Report 14 Feb 2008 15:21

HijackThis HijackThis: A general homepage hijackers detector and remover. Initially based on the article Hijacked!, but expanded with a lot of other checks against hijacker tricks. It is continually updated to detect and remove new hijacks. It does not target specific programs/URLs, just the methods used by hijackers to force you onto their sites.
As a result, false positives are imminent, and unless you are sure what you're doing, you should always consult with knowledgable folks before deleting anything.
A rudimentary HijackThis log tutorial by me is available here.
The official HijackThis QuickStart for posting on the SpywareInfo forums is available here.

Compatible with: Windows 2000 and newer
Currently at version: 2.00 beta

-> Download from Merijn.org
-> Download from MajorGeeks
-> Download from TrendMicro

Whats worrying me is I have just read on Cnet that 28 new viruses, trojans, spyware, malware in the last few days have been noted, I would think even more now since that news was written
