The lady didn't have an occupation.........she was the wife of the man whose occupation that was. I'll take a wild stab at Corn Merchant!!

As Ancestry doesn't have the images, you will need to access scotlands people if you wish to unravel the mystery

Have'nt found them yet in 1861 still looking. Henry their son had moved to Dalston, London by 1855 so it says on his marriage which took place in Scotland..
Corn Trader is a very strong possibility

KathrynB - the occupation for James Alexander Haldane is "Writer to the Signet" (an Attorney).

Chris - I looked on freecen and they state she is a Commercial Traveller's wife.
