Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 23 Mar 2008 13:30

Greeting’s again Eliane…..

YES that Square is genuine…….

Although I’ve tried before to find it’s location
with the help of Records Office staff….
But we couldn’t pin point it….

Three choices all on Granby Street. …….

Granby Place. …… ( Opposite the old Gomount Cinema.)
Alfred Place. ….. ( Opposite the Grand Hotel )

Or….. per 1910. there was what looked like a Quadrangle of houses
with flower gardens with paths radiating out from the centre.
Which occupied what was to become the site of the Grand Hotel
Between Belvoir Street & Chatham Street.

Granby Square is certainly on the 1841 Census but difficult to pin point
Not knowing in which direction the Enumerator traveled.

Send me a scan of the address ?

Got that, just trying to connect them all up but no marriage, everything points to Samuel Whitwell marrying a Rebecca, just having a look round now

Maggie in Leics Report 24 Mar 2008 09:15

Just wondering....

There was a pic in the Leicester Mercury (in the last couple of weeks or so) of St Martins churchyard before they "rearranged" the gravestones.

(My Butlers buried at St Martins, but if they had stones they are long since gone!!).

Has anyone still got the paper with the pic in? - I mistakenly recycled mine before I clipped the pic!!

Happy Easter Bank Hol from chilly Leics where we are still getting flakes of snow!!

Mike,

Thanks for looking.

Article was talking about a building that used to be next to St Martins (hospital?? Wyggestons?? something like that!!) - pic of building over wall from graveyard with a few stones in the foreground.

If you think it's the right one, please can you send it - all old email addresses still working at the present time.

Thanks lots.

Maggie

Frazzled

Frazzled Report 25 Mar 2008 22:01

Hello Mike

Can you help me with my Sanby family again please. Can you look at the burial records for Rutland so I can see how many Sanbys are buried there.

I am pretty sure that I have found that Samuel Sanby Sr was born in Spalding Lincolnshire and that he died in Stamford Lincs which is right on the boarder with Rutland. I think I am getting confused with all the going back and forth from Lincolnshire to Rutland. I would like to find out who in the family stayed in Rutland and who didn't.

Hope this makes sense.
