On Free BMD:
David Howell Williams born June quarter 1881, Crickhowell. (Volume 11b Page 125)

Margaret Ellen Williams born Dec. quarter 1883, Crickhowell (Volume 11b Page 91)

Jenkin Davies Williams born March quarter 1891, Crickhowell (Volume 11b Page 85)
(Could mother's maiden name be Davies? Or Howell from David's middle name?)

Still can't find the marriage. I think your best bet is to buy the birth certificate of one of the children to get mother's maiden name. Order from GRO using volume and page number. Don't pay more than 7 pounds.

This looks like the family on the 1891 census. Mind you, if I'd known it was Wales I would have ignored this thread. This Canadian has great difficulty with Welsh names!

Free BMD has oodles of William Williams marrying a Margaret, lots of them in Wales. We have to know what area you're talking about.

It usual to find the first child is born within 2 years of the marriage & often within the same area as the birth. This does not always work but it's a good starting point.
Also worth remembering, they weren't saints children did arrive before marriage!

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 12 Nov 2007 23:41

Do you have any more information? I can't find a William Williams born 1859 married to a Margaret on any of the censuses. Do you know where they were born or where they lived?

google bmd -birth marriage and death,in the area you think they were married, and the year -and if you are very lucky you'll come up with a match!
Not all records have been transcribed yet---waiting for volunteers!
Family search is worth a try.
Send for the certificate though if you do think you have a match-£7 is more than worth all the hassle of going up the wrong tree!
Have fun
