Greetings Mike Many thanks for additional comments. I totally trust your integrity in analizing handwriting hence no scan requested, having transcribed many thousand census and BMD records I fully understand the problem. As far as ASURAN is concerned and having studied the various records my money goes on AMBROSE as the missing link, hopefully, case closed. Regards Jon O'Kent

Greeting's John
Knowing this child could be ABRAHAM re 1851. census returns
So...... My mind could also make out the name Abraham although the upstrokes of the b & h are missing .or faint & the s could be an r Thus making it Aaron. as Mary O' Italy suggested.
That's why I asked you if you required the scan of this event.
Doubt if the detailed trawl for a sound - a - like would come to a successful conclusion. Remember that you are looking at a persons handwriting which can be very hard to understand plus many put the name down as it sounded
Like two of the children's surname had been put down with a J = Jomkins.
MIKE.

I've just checked in the Concordance, and it isn't a Biblical name.
I wonder if it's a mistranscription of Aaron?

Greetings Mike I am totally confused by this child named ASURAN, can find no further reference to him in Census or BMD's. ASURAN seems to crop up only in Science Fiction literature. There is a gap in the many children of Sam/Eliz between 1833-1838, if time permits next week could you please check the St Margaret Birth Registers for a likewise name ?. Many thanks Jon O'Kent

SKIP,
Just about remember Button A and Button B!!
Did you know the Guide Leader of St James in 1970 - can't remember her name - scary lady!!
"P.E. Kit = Physical Education" - in your pocket?????
Just a thought, do you have any gems on Thomas Hollins, Cordwainer, of Market Place and then Northampton Street in the early 1800's? His daughter Jane married my John Butler (and then Thomas Snaith after John died). Carolyn sent info to back up my thought that Thomas' wife was Jane Gardiner.
Think Thomas and Jane had a Thomas - also a cordwainer, who married a Mary.
Thomas and Mary also had a Thomas who was a Solicitor's Clerk, married an Eliza and ended up in Syston.
Jane and Thomas Snaith (her toy boy!!) last seen in London Road in 1861 as Photographic Artists - wonder what that entailed!!!!!
Jane and Thomas appear to have had a son, James, who looks to have died young.

Can't go treking yet - (not so) small cub has lurgy so confined to barracks for the time being.
Wonder how they got to work at Belvoir Street in 1892 - guess it would be walk, cycle or tram - weird to think of walking in their footsteps!!
Don't forget shoe and pocket inspection - or did cubs not have pocket inspection? Brownies used to have to have all sorts in their pockets to "Be Prepared"!!

Small holder badges eh?? Must be the cubs!! They've been doing their scientist badge recently which involved worm farms - could that be a cover for a you know what farm?? Maybe the lady and gent in question are Akela and Baloo??!!!!
Thanks SO much for the info on James - expect to see me treking up and down Sandown Road now looking for Mary Lea (just in case it still has the same name) - instead of prowling up and down the road at Gilroes getting some very strange looks!!
BIG THANKS.

T'wasn't me M'lud!!!!!
No room in my garage except for the junk I brought home from Charnwood '96 (Yes, I do mean '96!! - Dumped it, then hurt my back, then small cub came along, so the junk has stayed pretty much where I dumped it - in case it comes in useful one day you understand!!).
Have seen Anne's article in journal, Ta - also going to bring her attention to the pic of the Farriers' - sure her Rose must have spent many a day outside there waiting for her horse(s) to be shod.
More good news on the Heatherill front - small cub playing footie yesterday so Mum snuck off to Gilroes to have another look for great grandma - Agnes Crawford Butler nee Heatherill - and there she was, exactly where I left her - but easier to spot on a cloudy day.
Also found her brother James Heatherill in an 1892 directory, home address listed as Mary Lea, Lansdowne Road, Stoneygate. Wondering if they mean Sandown Road as Lansdowne not in Stoneygate - wonder if he owned the house as it is named after the family home in Glasgow. Sandown Road just round the corner from where the whole family eventually settled on London Road - house was called "Gladwynne" and is mentioned in the excellent "Tollgate to Tramshed, The History of London Road, Leicester c1860-1920" by Helen Boynton & Derek Seaton. The house is now a B & B called The Stanfre House Hotel - keep meaning to pop along and ask if I can have a look round!!
Wondering if anyone can tell me James' address in 1891 to see if that helps solve the mystery - he is listed as James Clarkson, born Scotland but living in Leicestershire with his two sisters Jessie and Agnes, and, I am told, a servant.
Thanks,
Maggie

Thought I had my Heatherill family sussed in 1891 via my (now expired) ancestry sub until I spotted a couple of strays on genes and findmypast - trouble is, ancestry doesn't seem to know about them!! The name is prone to mistranscription so it's possible they are there - just hiding!!
Please see thread "England 1891" on Records Office so as not to confuse folks!!
Thanks,
Maggie
