Margaret, Previous Marriage Disolved is a term used on registers when the marriage ended but not by death. Divorces were less common in those days though. The church couldn't do a second marriage for a divorcee then and the Catholics wouldn't entertain it anyway. Mumsy.

Yes, in Castleton, Roxburgh in 1864 birth of Margaret Little Armstrong. UPDATE: There is only one Grace Armstrong born in Scotland at the right time 1866 ARMSTRONG GRACE F CASTLETON /ROXBURGH so this would seem to confirm the other 2 I found. Will have a look for William now.

There's an 1862 birth of a James Armstrong in Castleton, Roxburgh which would fit then. I'll check for a Margaret one year later.

Absolutely riveting thread, well done to all who are giving up their time and money, even if there are no living reletives to find she was a loved daughter and friend and does not deserve to be forgotton. Just sticking my two pennorth in - the birth and marriage in Roxborough are the most likely as that is close to the border of nothumberland and not desperately far from Amble. Do the church keep records of why a marriage was dissolved - seem to think only in exceptional circumstances could this be done, not that easy and possibly have to ask quite high up the church? Hi All, Not a very successful day today but I have a little bit of information which may prove to be useful at a later date. I went today to check the minutes of the reference given in history.cardiffschools.net pointing to the Cardiff Rural District Council Minutes, 25th June 1943. There are no minutes for that date. Whether or not this meeting ever took place is difficult to say. I did look through it thoroughly . It's a large bound book so I doubt if pages have been lost since it was bound and stapled The recorded dates of the minutes from May 1943 were as follows:- 5 May 1943 2 June 1943 9 June 1943 7 July 1943 28 July 1943 1 September 1943 6 October 1943 As I said I checked and double checked in case they were bound out of order or that it was just the wrong date given but there was nothing. From there I went back to the Central Library since we now know the date when Patricia was killed, the inquest date and the date of death certification. I scanned through the paper until the end of June and came up once again with nothing. There were other cases of deaths away from Cardiff which were reported and for which the results of the inquest were printed, however there was nothing more on Patricia. What I did find while I was at the GRO was the 1919 - 1963 School Log for Radyr Mixed and Infants. Although no mention of individual evacuees arriving at the school, there were the following notes in the book. 20 May 1940 40 mixed and 10 infant children from Elington Council School LCC together with 7 of the staff arrived here this morning. 18 June 1940 A party of 45 children from Tottenham (Downhills Council School) together with 3 members of staff arrived here this morning. The names of the staff are Mr. W J Larcombe Senior Assistant in charge Mr L Doggitt BSc & Mrs L Doggitt 11 October 1940 Opened after mid term holidays 23 evacuees from Ealing together with Miss Nancy Howell (CA) attended here this morning. 7 Jan 1943 26 evacuees accompanied by Mr F L Nunn visited the pantomime at the New Theatre this afternoon. 3 May 1943 Re-opened after Easter Holidays 11 June 1943 Broke up this am for the Whitsun Holidays (No mention of Patricia) 23 June 1943 Mr F L Nunn LCC evacuee teacher was absent from duty today 8 July 1943 Mr F L Nunn died this morning at Glanely Hospital That's my day. So, could William Armstrong still be alive? Now we know he was discharged from the forces due to sickness in 1941. He & Hetty divorced at some point probably after that so maybe he also remarried???? I don't have access to UK records or I'd look myself! Thank-you to everyone who has been searching for information, this is a great thread!! Paula
