Thank you so much for this information, really appreciate it... i think i have found his second marriage to an Ann in 1835 on IGI her last name is Tunnicliffe and they were married in Enderby.
Even though my Edward keepd having the Enderby tag attatched to him, i think he is born elsewhere (Mowsley)as looking for Job (Edwards son)in 1841 in Leicestershire i couldny find them...missed the Leicestershire out and Job appeared in Foleshill Warwickshire with Edward and Ann .......then in another census it says that this Edwards birthplace is Mowsley.
I dont know if im clutching at straws but playing Miss Marple can be fun....hope im on the right track.

But their Marriage registers don’t start till 1881.

for the Edward Gamble marriage for me sorry i havent replied sooner but new addition to the family limits my playtime now.Idont think that marriage is the one im looking for as i think that he is married to Elizabeth then...on IGIi found Edward Gamble and Elizabeth Goode(of Little Glen)married Aylestone 24th October 1814. Would you be able to look up this for me that is if you have the disc to check it out i think there was another one on IGI same couple but different date like 14th October 1814/15. I think Elizabeth dies after 1828 as this is when Job is born on the 3rd Sept 1828 i dont know where but he was christened the following year at St George Street Primitive Methodist Church along with his sister Ruth. I only know of t Andrews Church in Aylestone are there any others .

I'm ploughing through burials at the moment, and I've found a couple that I'm puzzled about.

1. Ethel Slingsby North died on 24/09/1904 at 11 Nichols Street, Leicester (I have her death cert.), but I can't find a burial for her at Welford Road. All the rest of the family seem to be there - any idea where she might be?

2. My grandmother had twins in 1921 (Constance Jessie Pool and Mary Pool, MMN North). I was told they died when they were about 7 weeks old. I've found their births and deaths in the Ancestry full index (Leicester, 1st quarter of 1921), but I can only find a burial at Welford Road for Mary (aged 2 days). Any idea why that might be? I did check the stillbirths.

The GRO death entries aren't consecutive: Mary is no. 313 and Constance is 325, so she presumably died later.

Safely back in Italy now - thanks to everyone for a very enjoyable mini-meet.

Mike, one of the wills I got from the Record Office turned out to be fantastic. It was the will of William Wood North, and he left part of his estate to "my natural son William North" - ie. William North formerly Screaton, illegitimate son of William Wood North's wife Mary Screaton, whose father I've been trying to identify for months.

We did have a look at the Baptist records at Rothley, but there was no mention of our Norths or Screatons, so if the will hadn't confirmed William Jr's parentage I'd never have found it.

Thank you Mike for looking through the registers.

Don't know if this helps but the witnesses to William Hall's marriage in 1850 were William and Ellen Waters. Looked him up and he is also a Private soldier but different barracks. In 1851 census he is listed twice, once with his family and he is from Belton, Leicestershire and again at his barracks and there it says he is from Sheepshead which I have taken to be Shepshed.

So perhaps William and his family were in Shepshed at some point???

Thank you so much for the information you have given me. Sorry about disappearing message pressed the wrong button! Still a novice.

On William's marriage cert it said that his father was a Frame Work Knitter and it looks like many of the family did that as a living. I thought William might have been a rebel and did not want to follow that path. Perhaps that is why his widowed mother has put him with the grandparents.

It would be great to find out William's siblings to see if I have any relatives in the Leicester area. Sadly after becoming a grenadier guard William appears as a policeman in the 1861 census in St Sepulchre London and by the 1871 census he has died.

to the nearest multiple of Five.
Hence you get two Sons aged 15.

I was basing my choice of Partner for William James Wright
On. .. As I understood it that by 1874.
They were grouping couples together
when there was more than two couples on a page
instead of just stating those having the same Ref. No.

I have since rechecked Bridgham Census returns 61.71.

And yes both Families of Revitt & Houchen appear.

So. …. I think the only way to determine the right partner
is to order the Marriage Certificate in the name of William James Wright ONLY.

Yes Gilroes could be a choice for a burial / cremation of Alice.
Sorry but the Council are the only people who have details for Gilroes.

But I feel you need to do a bit of homework first.

The latest info I have of searches at City Council Cemetery Office.
Are they are charging £5.00 per person per hour to do the search yourself
Or £20.00. Per person, per hour. If they do the search for you.

Thanks for looking for me. Alices's maiden name was Houchen not Rivett, where did you get that from?

I have checked the workhouse records and found where she went in and came out which was voluntarily, there wasn't any more info. than that.

The Wright family (Alice's husband and Charles ) were successful farmers but farming in Norfolk went pearshaped around the 1880's so they must have moved to Rutland and then Leicester to find work.

The problem is her name, it is so common!!

I'll try and get into town to check the Gilroes registers next unless you have them?

Failing that I wonder if the mum went back to family in Norfolk.
