Greeting's Again Mary O' Italy ....

Bishops Transcriptions ? ...Ummmm

I would think either Peterborough or Lincoln.
OR LONDON.

But there was just TWO pages tagged on to the end of the 1741 Registers
but no Baptism information just alterations to Parish events 1659 ~62.
very messy spread over two registers scanned next to each other so a bit from one and bits from the other one

Hi Mike,

Thanks very much for looking.

I wonder where the earlier records for Swinford are kept?

The IGI catalogue shows that they've microfilmed the Swinford BTs for 1566-1871, but there's no mention of the PRs.

Greeting’s Again Mary O’ Italy…….

Seeing that the Records held at Wigston for Swinford
Did not start till 1741.
Then I think the I.G.I. Lydia Steans is very doggy !!!!!
and So no Thomas Berry Baptism found also.

The Marriage was as you thought just an entry in the Banns Book
Read in Swinford May 9th ~ 23rd.
He of Husbands Bosworth
She of this Parish.

That'd be very kind of you if you have time, Mike.

If you look at the Swinford registers you might keep an eye out for his wife Lydia Steans; she's said to be OTP in the marriage entry at Husband's Bosworth, but I can't find a baptism for her in HB.

There are a couple of submitted entries for her on the IGI, which don't look very reliable; one shows her birth in HB and one in Swinford, and of them gives her father as Josiah.

I was beginning to think that Thomas had a liking for Wedding cake !!!!

I’ll have a go at Swinford Registers for Baptism of Thomas

MaryfromItaly Report 24 Sep 2007 17:55

Thanks very much for looking Mike.

It is the Thomas Berry who married Lydia Steans, yes.

I've seen the original marriage entry from the HB parish registers on microfilm at the LDS centre, which reads as follows:

Thomas BERRY of the Parish of Swinford and Lydia STEANS of this Parish were Married in this Church by Banns this 11th Day of June in the Year of One Thousand seven Hundred and fifty six by me L. Gormston
Witnesses: Thomas STEANS and Peter BERRY.

The banns were read at HB on 9, 16 and 23 May.

Presumably the banns were read in Swinford as well as Husbands Bosworth; it looks as though whoever transcribed the Swinford records for your discs mistook a reading of banns for celebration of the marriage.

Anyway, don't worry about looking for Thomas's baptism at the Records Office, because it'll take ages as I don't have even an approximate year of birth. I'll order the Swinford film from my local LDS centre.

I've already checked for a baptism for him in HB, but he's not there.

Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 24 Sep 2007 17:07

Greeting’s Again Mary O’ Italy. ……

Nothing showing up so think it will be down to Pariah Registers
at the Records Office.

Is this the Thomas who married Lydia Steans ?

If so…… There is something weird about it……..

On the I.G.I. Batch No’s it has it down as
HUSBAND BOSWORTH.11th. June 1756.

But on my Parish Event disc it’s down as
SWINFORD 23rd. May. 1756.

Now is the Husbands Bosworth a Marriage Blessing?

I see they go on to have a large family
all Baptised at Husbands Bosworth.

MaryfromItaly Report 24 Sep 2007 08:59

Hi Mike,

Do you happen to have baptisms for Swinford on your discs?

I'm looking for Thomas Berry of the parish of Swinford who was married at Husbands Bosworth in 1756, so he would presumably have been baptised before 1740.

Hi Mike
Thank you for the info on Edward Gamble's 2nd marriage, i forgot that it would say widow or widower on it at least i know now that this Edward was married before.
I have also found a marriage for a Ruth Gamble to a Samuel Thompson which was in dec quarter 1844 in Market Harborough vol 15 page 317 , if your special powers stretch as far as Market Harborough would you be able to see if Ruths fathers name is on it....thank you once again Donna xx

This came about because of the Village of Dishley
Which is 3.1. miles North East of Shepshed.
