I have found that some information used to find ancestors is at times totally incorrect, probably due to the stories told by previous family members get embelished or elaborated upon. I have found that it is best to get hold of a persons birth certificate, easily purchased if you have the correct birth details, which enables you to start a search for ancestors with the correct information. There are also many message boards on various geneology and family history websites that can yeild good results. It is worth subscribing to such sites as G.C. while its concept and delivery is adequete, it is a long way behind its competitors. The people who run the family history sites are extremley experienced and helpful. Having said that, I still log on every day to read the mesages and will contiue to use it as it will only grow in size along with the information that it will be able to offer. Tips. Type into your search engine... free BMD.... for births , deaths and marriages. Type in for example, (your own surname) e.g. Bloggs surname lookup Type in English census 1881 for example. Most of all check that your historical family facts/history is correct prior to searching. The wrong information can lead you up the wrong paths, I know I've been up them. If you have only recently just started like my self last year, I hope this helps as it and many other people around the world have helped me.
