Genealogy Chat

To all fellow researchers. As with Netiquette (etiquette - the code of behaviour conventionally accepted as correct or polite in a profession or in society at large) there are ways of doing things for the good of all. I would like to coin a new word GENETIQUETTE (pronounced Jen-etiquette) which would mean that we all try to do the same things when writing to these boards. With respect may I suggest a) that all names be written in CAPITALS in order that they are seen more clearly when browseing. b) stop the lazy, modern way of writing everything in small letters. c) when adding place names add the county, too. As most of the indexes only mention towns and counties, it is important. Remember that not everyone knows that Ashby-de-la-Zouche is in Leicester and not somewhere in France. d) Some abbreviations genealogists use are the Chapman Codes for the counties of Great Britain. They use 3 letters, such as NTT for Nottinghamshire, LAN for Lancashire, SRY for Surrey. Lists can be found in libraries. Also the codes for the world like ENG for England, WAL for Wales, SCT for Scotland, IRL for Ireland, NIR for Northern Ireland, etc. Thanks for reading this and if we all follow the same path, you never know, we may find that we are related to Adam & Eve after all !!!
