My great great grandfather was christened with the surname of Mallard Cronk. His children were christened with this surname also. My great grandfather dropped the Mallard and my grandfather and mother were always known as Cronk. I finally found my great great grandfather in the 1901 census, recorded as Mallard without the Cronk(unfortunatley, whoever had trascribed the data had mistook the M for H and it has taken me much browsing time untill I discovered this). I have marriage certificates and funeral receipts with Mallard Cronk. Has anyone else come across this problem? Does anyone have any tips on the best way to proceed and also any tips on double surnames. Many thanks |
