Suzanne, here goes again- log on to the www.pro.gov.uk site ( its in the Links page under public records) choose an ancestor you know was born before 1901 and that you think would still be alive in 1901 with a family still living at home with them.eg Joe bloggs,wife Jane, son Jonquil, daughter Jenny.Click on person search and type in Bloggs Jonquil- as its the rarest name and most likely to find it quickly and be the right one. If you know where he was born or how old he was in 1901 type that in too, press search. All the Jonquil Bloggs will come up, pick the one u think is yours and note where it says he live now,(civil parish) eg Wandsworth, note his age, deduct that from 1901 to give you his birth year for future reference.With your mouse right click over his red name, a menu comes up, left click on properties, there will be an id no eg 4082361, click ok ithink , now press advanced person search, press additional place details, type in Bloggs and in civil parish type wandsworth, press search. now you get all the bloggs in wandsworth including Jonquil,you spot a Joe about the right age, right click again,and get his id no, it is 4082359, then you find a jane, rclick and the no is 4082360, Jenny is 4082362, then you spot a family name Jeanette, so you click and find the no 4082363, hey youve found a relative you didnt know existed and it proves the key to your 5 years research!( well it could happen!) so now you have your family group , their ages where they were born , where they lived in 1901, some occupations, just for the cost of your internet time, instead of fiddling with vouchers .But say you cant find Joe, click on head and search, and you find Jane is the head, so you assume Joe has died or down the pub on census night.Hope that helps.
