I spent 4 hours at the Family Record Centre last week searching for a marriage between my great grandparents -Alice Owen and John Humphreys, living in Manchester and both aged 30 on the 1901 census. The census states that they are married but I checked every record for both names from 1887 - 1901 and there were no matches. They had 3 children. I have Alice's birth cert but without the marriage, how do I find John's birth? Was it common for people not to marry in those days even though they had kids? |
