For anyone searching the freeBMD site you can check the progress of transcription for all years and events at the last update by using the link on their home page. The link takes you to graphs which show the extent to which each year has been transcribed. Some years have been 100% transcribed whilst others have barely reached 5%. The rest fall somewhere in between. Another smaller free site you might be interested in is UK BDM Exchange. Once registered, which takes seconds and costs nothing, you can add details of BDMs, baptisms and burials; search their database; contact others to exchange information. If you have a less common surname try the Guild of One Name Studies site. you can access the database of registered names being researched from the home page. If a name in your family is being researched you could contact the relevant researcher for help or just to exchange notes on what you already have. Some members have their own websites where some of their research is already available online. |
