Message for Carol Malkin but for anyone else interested. Carol I sent for the 1881 census on CDRom before it was available on line and it has been invaluable to me.The National Index is covered by 8 CDs and the country broken up into regions covered by 16 discs. I obtained it from The Distribution Centre, LDS Church, 399 Garetts Green Lane, Garetts Green, Birmingham, B33 OUH It cost £29.75 but that was 3 or 4 years ago. It also enables you to search neighbours in same streets which is helpful. I believe it was going to be updated to enable searching by occupation but I don't know if that happened. I would just add one cautionery note - the Americans have transcribed some place names very strangely and not all names are accurate - but then our ancestors didn't always give accurate info either! Good hunting! Beryl Darlington. |
