Member Since: November 2002 Posts: 9 Send Message	RE: Census Birth Dates The 1841 census is the only one that used a 5 year average for the age of the person. However, I have many entries from subsequent census' where family members have given ages that are more than 2 years out. However I also have others where the date is consistent from one census to another and also matches the birth certificate. The best way is to take a census age with a very large pinch of salt. I will use a census age as a starting point but I always try to find some other evidence to try and clarify the date of birth Good Luck
