Hi Ann Have you checked the non-conformist batismal registers as well as C of E? Also have you tried looking for him under his middle name - v. common for this 'family name' to have been surname of a relation, often mothers maiden name - he just might have been called that originally. Suggest you visit record office for the area in which he was married. Guess youve looked at census for date/location for marriage. Hope this helps
