CLARE ARTHEY Just out of interest I have tried to find your Crickmere, and have found the following notes on the internet: "Edgar Crickmere on card 11 must have feared high winds as he weighed in at 6 st 7lbs. However a word of advice, if ever you meet a 4 foot nothing jockey in a pub (bar) do not be tempted to arm wrestle them, they will snap your arm clean out of its socket and beat you with the soggy end. Consider them a tough lot." This seems to be referring to a set of Players Cigarette Cards. There is a hyperlink which is supposed to show pictures of all the cards in the set, but I could not get it to work. Some sources refer to him as H.Crickmere. I expect that you have already found that information, but there it is in case you haven't. Best wishes, Bruce. PS: I have a Great Grandmother whose maiden name was Jane CRICKMAR - Born 1853 in Colchester, Essex. |
