Re Brians remarks about the Americans not knowing the place names, etc. What about the mistakes in the 1901 census - some of them were transcribed by prisoners in HM jails (who perhaps couldn't really care) and also by people in INDIA. Imagine what we would make of transcribing anything for a place like India or Russia or anywhere foreign to us. 'Steps down off soapbox, and exits left...' Vera Lynne, Great! |
