Brenda The decoder is used to help you sort information from the 1901 Census. You know how it gets really expensive cos you don't know who belongs to which family? If you have the decoder it can help group family members together and saves you having to pay. It doesn't give you the address the family are living at but most of the time you don't need that information anyway. It's free to download, just type in 'census decoder' in your search engine and it should come up. I'm a computer novice and I managed to download it with no trouble. I think it took about 15 mins, and it's managed to save me hours of research time. P.S. Just want to say to everyone, I've added two more generations of ancestors today and I'm now back to 7 X Grt Grandad in c.1700. I've never visited a records centre, register office etc. and although a lot of my data is not verified (mainly done through connections on this site and LDS)I am so pleased with the result. It has only taken about 3 months (but many hours)and I think has cost me about £50 in certs, 1837online fees, etc. Well worth the money. A big thank you to everyone at GC who has helped me, especially my three new 'cousins'.
