The next Census to be released will be the 1911 one which will come out in 2011.... so don't hold your breath !!! The question about the marriage certificate with age of a 'minor' would be 16 unless it was performed in Scotland as they were allowed to get married at the age of 15. This is the reason they would run off to Gretna Green to marry...it was one of the nearest places over the Scottish boarder. The part that says the mans profession was that of a 'Gentleman' probably refers to someone with 'independant means' ( of course it could always mean he was a gambler or such like ...>smile< Hopes this helps Marilyn Baldwin ( this site calls me Janet, this was the name I was given at birth (Janet Eagles), but when I was adopted my name changed to Marilyn Gadsby) |
