If anyone is researching Somerset and Welsh borders areas they may find the Online Genealogical Research Engine site - OGRE- useful. It looks to be fairly new but there appears to be a growing database worth looking at. Hope it helps someone. Beryl, Co.Durham.

Tried the usual search and only found the odd bods into magic & mayhem and dungeons & dragons. Could you give us a clue as to the address, please? Vera, Manchester

Vera, I found the site purely by accident but went back to it by typing in OGRE in search engine. However, been back and found the following hope it works - ogre@cefnpennar(.)com - remove brackets. Let me know if it's successful! Beryl.

Vera I used the google search engine, advanced option and specified OGRE as the 'exact phrase' and entered 'genealogy' in the 'contains all the words' field. Struck gold with the third entry listed which was: Genealogy Links in the United Kingdom ... Online Genealogical Research Engine (OGRE) The OGRE web site hosts UK genealogical data which can be queried. Medieval Genealogy Medieval Genealogy provides ... {www.generations.on.ca/genealogy-uk.htm} Paul, Cheltenham P.S. Putting brackets round the website address seems to have cracked that one!

Vera, Just logged on to site and I see that the earlier message I posted this morning doesn't seem to have been complete. I'm sure I typed the complete address - however - I trust you have found it by now. A knight in shining armour seems to have rescued you from those dragons and dungeons!! Beryl - thanks for pointing this site out as my husband's maternal family of BEVAN come from that area and he was born in Abercarn. There's a name for you, expecially in Welsh Wales!! (If you say that last bit in a Welsh accent it sounds much better) Funny I should mention dungeons & dragons before as there is a Welsh Dragon in the folklore, isn't there. Thanks to everyone, again. Vera I just tried the website address I quoted in my earier message and it worked perfectly for me. However, on closer inspection, it provides a link to the site you found and this is why it came up in my search. It looks very useful in its own right with many links to other sites of interest to the genealogist. Paul, Cheltenham
