Clara - Clarissa? I think it's a name in itself though, not just an abbreviation. -Kate

Hi April, Is it possible that Great Grandad could have married more than once? Jim, Gosport.

I found that my ancestors changed their names regularly! My great great great grandfather and his wife mainly. My ggggrandfather used: Bowden Allen (1881 census) Allen Bowden (1901 census) Charles Allen (2nd marriage) Charles Bowden Allen (1891 census) Bowden Charles Allen (1st marriage) His birth certificate states that only the first of those is his actual name. Were it not for the fact that he had so many kids that the details onthe census were unmistakeable to his living family then I may never have found him! Best Wishes, -Kate
