Thanks to you both for your help. I'll let you know how i get on with it. All i know is the surname of my GTGT Granddad and that he was from scotland and he died possibly around 1888. But he was killed while working on the Northern Railway. Love Jessica |

Jessica, In addition to William's useful advice - according to my copy of The Genealogical Services Directory (bit of a mouthful - sorry!) the P.R.O. has most Railway records. It says "....If your ancestor was involved in a railway accident, particularly a fatal one, the Railway Inspectors would almost certainly have been involved. Their reports, between 1840 and 1964 are in series MT 29, with some indexes in MT 30. Other reports are in MT 114...." Accidents were often covered in local newspapers too - so you may find something in back issues. Regards, Beryl. |

Speaking to my nan about her family i discovered a cousin of the family was lost at sea when the ship EMPRESS OF IRELAND sank in 1914 (have website address with passenger list) then i discovered her grandfather was killed on the Railway in Scotland/Northern England. Anyone know how i can search online for any accidents on the Railway? It would've happened in the 1880s possibly. thanks |
