I agree with Suzanne, try the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. They require basic info. to begin the search and the site is quite user friendly. I found my great grandfather on it and based on his memorial then learned where my Nan lived after his death, and I actually got a parent's name and location off it too! Very productive search for once. |

Does anyone have any idea how I can find out about my Grandad. This is not a trying to find message, I don't know where to start to look regarding regiments, or marriage data. This is all very new and I am a novice. All I know is that he was Leslie Warner. Died circa 1942 in Egypt of gangrene after tripping over a tent peg. Possibly in the Army - no idea which regiment, or whether he was an enlisted man or an officer. Married Doris (surname unknown and now deceased also) had one son James (my Dad). My Dad was about 2 when his Dad died. I don't know how old he was or where he came from, where he lived, or got married, I am really stuck! How do you start? Please help if you can. I tried the PRO for a starting point, but they couldn't help. Thanks |
