Hi Andrew, As he was an analytical chemist, wouldn't he have belonged to a Professional Guild or Association? Is there a Royal Pharmacological Society? Hope it helps, Jim, Gosport. |

Hi, I hope this message isn't deemed to be a 'Trying to find' message as really I'm only after some tips/advice. I've hit a brick wall in researching my great uncle, William Yates Cook, born 1882 in Loftus-in-Cleveland (Lofthouse). In the 1901 census, he's listed as living in Loftus and was an analytical chemist. However, I'm pretty sure that he married sometime between 1901 and the start of WWI. My aunt met William when she was a little girl and he told her and my grandmother that if anything happened to my grandfather in WWI then he would look after them. She also believes that they met William in Uckfield, Sussex although I can't be 100% sure about him living there. I feel that the only option open to me is to try and search the marriage indexes, however there's a very real possibility that he might simply be listed as William Cook rather than William Yates Cook, which isn't helpful to me given that I don't know where he married. Are there any other options open to me or avenues that I can explore (e.g. Trade directory perhaps?)in order to find out more about him. MTIA, Andy Cook |
