Barbara Not all FHS can carry all the info for all the country - I wish - but at Manchester we have copies of lots of the other FHS quarterly Journals containing the Members Interests which is quite useful. Members Interests is a list of family names that the members are researching and they are updated on a yearly basis. This is a way of contacting other people who are interested in the same names are ourselves. Just like GC site really. Every little helps. It's surprising what can be found in the FHS libraries as we have donated items, like books, family trees, maps, fiche, etc., which are pertinent to areas outside Manchester/Lancashire. So there are no hard & fast rules. Regards Vera B, Manchester

Hi Vera, I live in Gloucestershire,but the records I would like to look at are in different areas.So do I join the local one near where I live or do I have to join the family history societies that I am interested in.I am sorry to sound like I am a bit dim! Cheers, Barbara.

Debra Congratulations - isn't it great when you find an ancestor. You have done what I have been trying to tell all the members new to genealogy and that is to join their local Family History Society. You think this site is good for help and advice - well - wait till you join a society and you will find an Aladdin's cave. If I can help anyone find their local FHS just ask. I have a book! Yesterday I wrote a letter,asking for help, a useless endeavour as I forgot to title it , and so no-one can access it!! I was going to do redo it, but today I spent the morning in vancouver library genealogy dept. and picked up some good tips and books. Then, this afternoon I spent at B.C. SOG, and was able to access the Northants 1851 census index and found my G Granddad, Jesse Jones'siblings and lots of other potential ancestors to work on. They have stacks of books and other info including a cd of parish registers, so I am now a member, and can make full use of all the facilities,the best $35 I've ever spent. So, take a tip from me and join your local SOG. Apart from anything else, you may find a new relative at the meetings!!
