Clare! That is spooky! lol I have just posted a message to Gencirlces SOuth Africa Club so I will keep you posted if they come up with anything. I have heard that the LDS FHC have a lot of information but yet to enquire. If they do, I don't mind doing look ups for you at the same time. Will let you know. Warm regards Sonja |

Cyndis list has differnet websites for different countries. Im in the same boat as you, my gtgrandfather was born in Durban only because his father was in the army. By strange coincidence they too took up in resisdence in Kent. |

My ggfather was born on the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. His father probably immirated there as a merchant seaman (not sure), married an Indian born British lady, had one son in India and then moved back to Kent. Is there another site apart from SA-British Immigrants (Rootsweb) with a message borad/mailing list? I joined this one and, to be really honest, found them majorly unhelpful. They seemed to be busy researching each others families of prominent South African status in the early days of British Colonization! They did have the good grace to send one reply that no birth certificates were issued prior to 1860! I need 1836.Didn't suggest anything on how to go about checking details etc. All help greatfully appreciated! Once again, many thanks. Sonja |
