Try entering the new partner first and then go in the childrens records. I'm sure I've changed a mother over in the past so it may work for fathers.

Thanks Alison, but I feel sick at the thought that I will have to delete right back to my great great grandparents and all (hordes) of subsequent children down the line! I love this site - a whole lot of family history has been opened up to me, and I congratulate those concerned with it's inception...but I do wish that mistakes/alterations could be made easier to correct! One slip-up and you're forced to delete almost your entire tree to rectify it!

Maxine is right - you do have to delete everyone and start again by adding the second marriage and then the subsequent children. It happened to me with eleven children of one man and two wives. I did go ahead and delete them as it annoyed me not to have it right. Doing it as soon as i realised however did have its advantages because now that i have added the childrens offspring etc the line of ancestry is correct to the correct grandmother. Does this all make sense? Hope so Good Luck with your changes - if you make that decision Alison

Thanks Maxine...bit daunting, as there are loads of children etc. and I have a problem trying to delete (seems I need to update software). Maybe I'll take your alternative and just add a note! It IS annoying though! Bless you for your help xxxx

I think the Bad news is, that you will have to delete the children, enter another partner for your Grandfather(just put them as unknown if you don't know their name) , and re enter them attached to the correct mother. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I havn't found another way- unless you want to leave it as it is and just put a note in their facts- it depends on whether you are going to persue that line further - in which case I'd change it now, or how much it annoys you! regards Maxine

Since entering my tree details I have discovered that my grandmother had been previously married, so that some of her children whom I have entered as my grandfather's offspring were in fact the children of her first husband. Can any of you kind and knowledgeable folk advise me as to how I change the name of their father on my tree? xxx!
