my husbands grandfather is on the 1901 census as Thomas Eke born in 1897 in Hingham Norfolk, living with his g/mother,but when he got married he was then Thomas Norton, the story goes that when he went to school he was told to say he was T.Norton. I cant find him on a birth list,any ideas out there,Please |

Hi Meryl I think the only way to get a definate answer would be to get a birth certificate- I would imagine that Eke is quite an unusual name, so have a look on the 1837 site. If you can establish his birth name, it will help find his ascendants, however if Norton was a name he used (no law against it!) it may well be that you will have to check out both names for his descendants. The Norton may well be a tip towards another family name however! I'm sure someone else will advise on deed poll and the like - I'm afraid I know nothing about that! Good luck Maxine |
