can anyone tell me which census,s are available and where to access them do you have to go to the london archives, I know there is a site for 1837 and 1891 is mentioned on ancestral both are pay sites but are any others available aai realise they will most likely be pay sites but needs must when the bug bites!! sandra |

Hi Sandra go to links on the left hand side of screen ,you'll find addresses for sites,1901 is on line you can view without paying also the 1881 is on familysearch(latterday saints site) free. April |

Hi Sandra The Library nearest where your ancestors came from should have copies of the census returns from 1841 through to 1891. You will be able to book to view the records - which will be on film. If you are lucky you may find that some of the returns have been indexed by surname, making it easier to locate them, otherwise it will just be trawling through. The libraries make no charge for viewing, should you wish to print the records this charge seems to vary from place to place. My library charges 50p per copy. Hope this helps. Jane |

This site lists which censuses are available. http://www.mit.edu/~dfm/genealogy/census-chart.html If you are only interested in small area like a village then it is soemtimes not that expensive to buy the appropriate fiches direct the PRO. If you don't have a fiche reader then you can always take them to your local library and use their reader. Martin |
