Marriage certificates from 1880's

You will get exactly the same information on a marriage certificate from then as you would now. When you get the certificate check the witnesses as they may be relations as well as the fathers being named. Also be aware that all the details may not be correct. I have a relation who married under age and her brother was recorded as being her father. I don't know how rare this is but it obviously went on and probably still does. Good luck in your search Stephen

This will sound daft to the more experienced out there, but presumably a marriage certificate from the 1880's contains the same information as a present day one ie. the ages of the bride and groom and the names of their parents. I am about to apply for one but would very much appreciate a bit of background knowledge first. Cheers Helen
