I have bitten the bullet and decided to do a parallel tree using a separate software programme as has been suggested by many people. However, having downloaded the LDS one I am finding it rather user unfriendly - for me anyway! Perhaps I have been spoilt by how easy GC is to use. There were some recommendations a while back- but they seem to be lost in a forest of Agnes' and Vicars and Billies et al! So if you like what you've got (software wise!) please let me know. I am using Family Tree Maker which is really great and staight forward. It has many options of various reports, charts etc which can be easliy printed.It costs £30 but is well worth it.

Margaret Mitchell Is that the 'Softkey' one? I have that one and it's good, the only problem being that it doesn't allow for cousins who marry, ie: John and Alice, siblings, John's son married Alice's daughter. On the tree it shows John & Alice's parents twice!! Apart from that it's fine. Rosi I downloaded one from the internet (can't remember where) called GenoPro and that shows marriages between cousins. Thanks all. Family Tree and Family Tree Maker are different I take it? So far I haven't found cousins marrying in my tree - (I have my suspicions re my Kent Smithermans in the early/mid 18's) - so that shouldn't be a problem - at least not yet. And am sure I can live with the odd duplicated entry if it does happen. Has anyone else found the LDS one difficult? I am trying to show my current marriage in pole position, and merely record the first one as having happened. Easy to achieve with GC - but I can't manage it with the PAF. The 'help' tells me I may want to do this- but doesn't tell me how! Grrr. Rosi

Hi Rosi! How are you? Just read your query on adding another marriage in PAF. If you clike on the person you want to add a marriage to, so that the box is hi-lighted. Then click on 'Add' at the top and select 'Add Spouse'. This should sort it for you! Regards Sally, Coventry

Hi Sally - thanks - I have sort of sorted it- mainly by trial and error - the way I do a lot of things! What I have found while transferring each and every entry on my GC tree to PAF is a big error! I have got the brother of my direct ancester, born in 1819, getting married in 1821 and producing several children, starting in 1824 !!. Just a bit precocious don't you think? the 'error' must fit in the family somewhere- the name I took as qualifier is fairly distinctive - but .. he aint the chap I thought he was! So it's back to the drawing board - and the delete button! oops! Thanks for advice anyway Rosi.
