Photographic Expert?

Is anyone a photographic expert? I have some photo's of my family dating back to the late 1800's, I have photocopied them and scanned them, but can I laminate them for preservation? I don't want to ruin them, but also I want them to last, as some of them have hand written messages on the back. Any help would be appreciated. Kim Sandhurst Berks |

The heat from the laminator will ruin your pics. I'd be inclined to put them either in a clear punched pocket, sealed. Or, to give them rigidity between two pieces of thin perspex or glass. Sorry can't be more help. Julie |

If your storing them place them between 2 sheets of acid free paper as the plastic wallets can have chemicals that eat away at them. You can buy this at art shops, also keep them somewhere that isnt subject to extremes of temperature |

You can also get special archival quality print holders [transparent] from a specialist photographic dealer. Check your yellow pages. Make absolutely clear it has to be archival quality, confirming one of the other replies, ordinary PVC or similar will degrade you prints. You can also get copies made, giving you a negative to go with them. Badger Bill, Worthing |

If you look in any of the Family History mags you will find a couple of suppliers of speciality archive binders that have the acid free inserts for preserving photos and certificates. |
