After months of endless searching for a false 1901 census birth place I now find my Ggrandfather William Baker on 1891 census as being born in America US! Born in 1860/61, father Stephen, and pre-Ellis Island records. Could anyone tell me how I go about searching for passenger records when I have no idea when the family arrived here? Hi Marion. I'm in the same position as you,I've just found out off 1881 Scots census (thanks to Susan who did a look up for me)that Gt Granddad Christopher Gallant was born in America, probably around 1840-5,and have no idea how to start searching.I know Christopher joined the marines here and had a navy pension so I'm looking into this. If you could find out your relatives occupation, you might be able to dig something up. |
