Unrecorded Birth - Birmingham/Barnsley?

Susan, If it is the free BMD site you have checked, this does not mean the birth was not recorded, just that that portion of the index has not yet been transcribed onto the site, 1837 has the full index but is pay per view to search it (link available from this site), if you are local to the area you are seeking your local library may have a copy of the area registration indexes. There may be an index for the 1861 census for the area giving the reference for the workhouse, which would be included somewhere. Hope this helps |

Having looked at BMD unable to locate my GreatGrandmother Dora Bartlett (nee Brown). 1881, 1891 & 1901 Census state born in Birmingham, although rumoured to have been brought up in workhouse in Barnsley (no record available. Born 1853 - any ideas where I may look next. not sure if 1861 Census for Barnsley exists, unsure of Workhouses in that location - any help please? |
