Hi Martin I did check first names as well. What I got was: Matthew age 35 - 7036 my g/grandfather Mary age 10 - id 7038 my grandmother Matthew age 8 - id 7039 my g/uncle So I assume that 7037 is Matthew senior's wife = my g/grandmother. Problem is I don't know her first name so I will have to continue with the quest. It's all part of the fun !!!

7036 = Greatgrandfather 7038 = Grandmother 7039 = Great Uncle So I assume that 7037 = my Greatgrandmother. You will probably need to get the image of the page to find out what is going on. Presumably you searched just on the surname so anyone with that name would have appeared. Usually the surnames are "dittoed" so all the family have the same spelling, even if incorrect. It is always useful to know the names of anyone else in the household. Martin

Hi all I did the right click on the names ages ago for my gr.gfather and it came up since then having made a note of the numbers I have found all the family if you have no idea of a first name leave it blank it takes time to go through names given but if the numbers match you have a name and age of the person.I managed to find 8 children from the family.Patience is a vertchew (don't laugh i can't spell it) best of luck Jill from Cardiff

Hi Andrea After you have right clicked on the person, go to the bottom of page, left hand side and it is the column above where it says"start". Go to the right hand side of the column and it says - personid= followed by a number. That's the number you're looking for. Sorry I can't explain it in a more technical way but I really am a computor dinosaur. Terry

All I get when I run my cursor over the name or the certificate, is a pound sign meaning I have to pay to view. I have tried clicking with both left and right mouse buttons and still get nothing. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? I am using the 1901 census decoder - does this make a difference?

Thanks Rosalind. I didn't know about the sequential numbers and the right clicky thing (I told all you GC people that we have the experts on this site). I have just double checked my relatives on 1901 and got the following. I have only used the last four numbers of the ID. 7036 = Greatgrandfather 7038 = Grandmother 7039 = Great Uncle So I assume that 7037 = my Greatgrandmother. Rosalind - How am I doing ?? Terry - Gib

I use 1901 Census Decoder from http://www <.> censusdecoder <.> com/ Sorry about the strange formatting but GC screws up URL's It will decode the data and then don't forget to save before you close the program - you can save as CSV, EXCEL, HTML and GEDCOM Martin

A few weeks ago, someone gave a great tip on how to access info (free) on the 1901 site. All you have to do is, once you find your relative, you move the cursor to the left hand side and place it over the image of the certificate. At the bottom of the page, on the right hand side, it gives a identification number. You can then enter names of possible relatives and if the ident no is the same, you've found another member of the family. You can also use the address search in the same way to find out who was living at the same address. I'm not sure if I have explained it clearly enough (I really am a beginner at this)but if you have any problems, I'm sure that one of our more experienced members will point you in the right direction.
