Brian yes there is a facility (click on the transcribers name) although the purpose of keying every record at least twice is to catch mistakes and so mismatching entries will eventually be corrected as a team of volunteers reviews them.

Is there a facility to notify freebmd of errors? For example the original entry, which is partially illegible, for one partner in a marriage has been keyed twice, once as page 236 and once as 256. As I know the identity of the other partner and have checked it on 1837online I know that 256 is correct. Can I tell freebmd to delete the 236 entry?

Barbara, as a FreeBMD transcriber, thanks for the 'thanks'. No, you don't get to choose the pages you transcribe. The sydicate head allocates pages to members of the team. If you want to see what sydicates are doing and what periods are still waiting to be allocated to a sydicate, check http(://) www2(.)freebmd(.)org(.)uk(/)cgi(/)bmd-synd(.)pl. This site also gives you the sydicated that are recruiting new members, which are always welcome as every page completed gives us more information to search. FreeBMD were only allowed to use data up to 1901 until April this year. Now the period has been extended to 1983 but I think the priority is getting the old stuff completed first but don't take my word for it.

Just looked at the progress of Free BMD. It's coming on a treat, especially the marriages. Well done and thanks to all the transcribers. What I should like to know however is why some years have barely any records at all. Do the contibutors get to choose which years they work on? Barbara
