I am nearly in the position of being able to load my family tree onto the GC site - any tips before I take the plunge?

Hi I did load my Gedcom and it is almost to good as it can take for ever to laod the tree or parts of it. I have 374 names I did wonder if I should have copied it first and then edited the copy, taking away some of the more recent branches. Trouble is those are the sideways links that connect into other people. allowing you to combine your efforts. If you only put on ancestors you can't as easily do that.
